ATHENS Fine Art Architectural Workshop – Sponsor Spotlight – SMUGMUG
Interview with Katherine Cheng, Marketing & Biz Dev at SmugMug
SmugMug, besides being great professionals as for hosting photography sites, were also very generous in giveaways for the students coming to Athens. They are offering Portfolio accounts for everyone and one Business account for a lucky student, all free for one year!! And I can tell you Portfolio accounts are very valuable accounts – 150 USD, not to mention the Business accounts – 300 USD – (which is the one I have and I’m very happy with it)
And now the interview. Katherine was so kind to answer a few questions, in order to give you a better idea about SmugMug and why you’ll love it if you go there. I know I do!
Q1/ Julia Anna G – Everyone knows by now that SmugMug has a new glamorous interface and a very user-friendly one indeed. Considering that time is our most valuable possession nowadays, how fast can one set up a professional looking website on SmugMug?
A 1/ Katherine C – The nice thing about SmugMug is that in just a few minutes, you can set up a professional and gorgeous website. However, if you want a more unique and custom look, you can personalize your site as much as you want – all without knowing any design software or computer programming.
Q 2/ Julia Anna G – For someone who doesn’t know many details about SmugMug, which would be the most important thing that could make them come and sign up, besides the highly professional people from the Support section?
A 2/ Katherine C – This is a great question and depends on what that person is looking to do with their photography. Some people want a safe and private place to organize and store their images online. Others may want to sell prints and digital files or set up a more professional portfolio to showcase their work. All of this is possible with SmugMug!
Q 3/ Julia Anna G – How important do you think a well designed, easy to use photography website can be for the professional photographer or for the aspiring one that needs all the exposure he can get? Is it true that a website can make or break a photography career?
A 3/ Katherine C – The amazing thing about the photography world today is that there are so many interesting and helpful tools to help photographers get exposure and connect with a larger audience. However, as photographers grow your career and try to figure out ways to financially support themselves through their photography, a professional website becomes a crucial tool. Besides giving you a polished and professional presentation to prospective clients, a well-designed website can help you stand out from the crowd.
Q 4/ Julia Anna G – How do you relate to B&W Architectural Photography? Do you have in mind any project that would promote this genre?
A 4/ Katherine C – We’re excited to see BW fine art architecture photography growing in popularity and have enjoyed supporting this community by sponsoring architectural photography workshops and working closely with gifted artists like Julia Anna Gospodarou and Joel Tjintjelaar
Q 5/ Julia Anna G – What would you say to the participants to the Athens Fine Art Architectural Workshop?”
A 5/ Katherine C – Don’t be afraid to explore your unique style, experiment, and make “mistakes.” There’s a lesson in every experience
