HIGH-END LIMITED EDITION PRINTS
Ode to Black | Black Hope – A fine art architecture photography series by Julia Anna Gospodarou. Limited edition prints of iconic places in Athens, London, and San Francisco, presented in a fine art manner.
Ode to Black – Black Hope started as an impulse to study the extremes of light and shadow, and it became a series on the subconscious exploration of dark tones and how far darkness can be extended through the removal of light before photography is not possible anymore. Intended as symbols, the images in this series have the same meaning as the famous photographer and theoretician Alfred Stieglitz gave to his “Equivalents”: to use the subject to create an equivalence between the inner world of the artist and the meaning that the resulted images have for the viewer.
The motif of the bright light, even if it covers an infinitesimal area of the image and is surrounded by darkness, being the last light before total darkness, is intended as the most important element in the story: light as hope, black as a driving force that guides me towards the light.
The images of the series are meant to be experienced in a sequence, and their names are inspired by what the famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung calls “Archetypes”. The artistic intention was to give these images the same role Jung gave to his archetypes and archetypal events – to express my subconscious world and tell a story.
The image Ode to Black | Black Hope I, published in April 2013 was the image that launched publicly the concept of (en)Visionography that would become one of the most important concepts in the fine art photography of the past decade.
