“I have had the good fortune to take two workshops, one year apart, from Julia Anna. The first in San Francisco, and the second in Los Angeles.
The preparation for the workshop was thorough and prepared me for what I was about to learn better than any other workshop. I have taken many workshops throughout the past 15 years as a photographer and quite simply, none compare. From day one in the class, I knew I was in for some serious work on my part. Julia Anna’s knowledge and her wish to share that expertise, enthusiasm and passion are wasted on none. I truly believe she does everything possible to help you grasp concepts and apply them the same day. She is a workshop leader in every sense of the word. You will find her helping each of her students assisting them in understanding a concept or technique first hand, and never photographing herself until everyone is finished, or once the entire workshop is ended and all have gone home. She is open to answer any question at any time and somehow is able to help all so no one is left out.
So why did I take the second class? (BTW, there were 5 other 2-time workshop attendees there). I felt I needed to get one more dose, feeling I did not get everything the first time, due to my lack of knowledge entering the workshop. Although I did have enough knowledge to do well and comprehend most, had I known more Photoshop I have come to find, out my life and creativity could have been made easier and a bit more successful.
Am I glad I took the second class? Oh my! I had no idea I had learned so very much in one year, but the work I have created since that second class, (only 2 weeks hence), has simply been amazing. So much so that after sharing some images from my San Francisco workshop with our local photography group and museum members, I was asked to have a one-person show in the local museum in January 2020 sharing images from both San Francisco and Los Angles. I am honored, but even more, having Julia Anna as a mentor and a coach has given me the freedom to be creative beyond my hopes and has me as impassioned as I have ever been. I also am creating other black and white portfolios for clouds and sand dunes with the learnings I received from Julia Anna. The concepts have helped me to find my vision and voice. Something I have searched for the entire 15 years of my photographic experience.
Yes, I am a fan, but then read other testimonials and you will see I am not alone in my praise and admiration for this international artist and wonderful person. She quickly becomes your friend within her workshop. So take advantage of this opportunity and take a workshop. I may see you there.”
– Bob Canepa – San Francisco, USA
“I wanted to thank you again for all the information, constructive suggestions and humor you provided for all of us during the intensive three-day workshop. Your insight into the flow was just perfect.
I got way more than I asked for in the workshop. I always like to see what’s in your head. Your work with all the participant images was extremely valuable. I am creating a new Adobe Portfolio Website for just B & W work to include Architecture, Dunes and Yosemite Landscapes in particular and your constructive critiques were so very helpful.
And the hours you put, well it was truly amazing. Thank you so much for the support and sharing of your knowledge to help me achieve my vision for so long now.”
– Bob Canepa – San Francisco, USA
“Working with Julia (on both a group and a private workshop and more extensively and intensely in private online mentoring) has helped me push the limits of my photography, helped me enjoy it more and also helped me discover so many things, not only about photography but also about myself as an artist.
Julia has developed her own divergent and creative thinking into innovative, practical techniques and exhibits the generosity of her spirit in fully sharing these unique ideas and practices through her teaching, her website and her writing. She shows great respect for (and extensive knowledge of) both the history of art and the history and traditions of photography and has extensive knowledge and understanding of the work and contributions of our photographic forebears. And this is delivered with passion, enthusiasm, energy and commitment in her workshops and private mentoring.
My Twitter profile says that I’m “seeing the world afresh” and, at the time I wrote it, I was referring to the almost magical impact of cataract interventions, restoring colour and vibrancy to my yellow and murky visual world. But it’s also an accurate description of the effect of working with Julia; she has inspired, mentored, challenged and supported my transition from engineering into photography; helped and guided this (retired, female) engineer to develop confidence and vision in fine art.
I feel privileged to be one of her students.”
– Paddy Dawson – Leeds, UK
“Julia is a complete artist, inspiration and passion, and as a teacher, she creates a learning adventure to obtain images in which vision is at the center of the photography process and creative processing. I can say that this holistic way of approaching photography has given me tools to take photography to a higher level. The workshop in Berlin was intense, challenging and fun, I loved every moment. I warmly recommend the learning experience with Julia, who has this extraordinary quality of allowing the student to find his own voice when he is looking for it, as is my case.”
“I would like to share my immense gratitude to and for Julia Anna for such a photographic-life-changing workshop. She is an amazing instructor with such a talented vision, delivery and execution of such vision. She is a tough cookie who’s humble and down to earth. I encourage anyone at any level to experience an (en)Visionography workshop. You won’t leave the way you came in. High 5’s to Julia Anna for the absolute best experience.”
“Julia provides huge value for you money in her workshop. She is very hands-on and attentive to each students needs and level in the field and is an absolute wealth of information to tap into for a host of questions that may arise during her workshops.
It is abundantly clear that Julia is dedicated to providing her students with an excellent workshop experience both while out shooting in the real world environs as well as the many hours of classroom instruction she provides as part of her course curriculum, including presentations about creative vision, post-processing your images and field techniques for different situations and conditions.
Her passion for what she teaches is contagious and her presence is both inspiring and a delight to be around as she is both a genuinely interesting individual and a delight to simply sit on the local park bench with and catch your breath as you chat about making images, creating art, crazy teenagers and the people, places and things we so often share in all our lives.
I would highly recommend her workshops and will likely join her for another in the future. Bravo!”
– Matt Siler – New Hampshire, United States
“Julia’s New York architectural photography workshop in May of 2023 was a real eye-opener in terms of how to see and depict the entire volume of an architectural subject as well as how to visualize through post-processing methods our interpretation of the structure as we saw it. I learned about luminosity masks for the first time and how to use them to bring out just the details of the subject that I wanted to emphasize.
I see architectural subjects in a different way now when I walk around the city. Before they were just buildings and now more like an almost blank slate upon which to represent my feelings about the shape and intention of the object.
“It is the second time I have done a workshop with Julia. The first time it was a group workshop, while now a private one which for me was a continuation of the first.
Julia, once again you impressed me for the way you focus where it is needed and communicate it.
What I can say for sure is that after this training I changed the level of how I see photos, but also how I create them.
“Julia’s Curriculum goes far beyond the how-to’s of capturing and processing. It’s a holistic approach that teaches the entire process from start to finish with the ultimate goal of creating a beautifully crafted and polished image. To sit in her workshop is to be led on a journey where you learn to see through the eyes of an artist and led to your own version of Julia’s magnificent vision.
The (en)Visionagraphy process liberates the photographer from traditional dogma and technical limitations espoused by so many today. It is not a recipe, but more a way of seeing and thinking about photography. Yes, the fundamentals of focus, exposure, and composition all apply, but they, along with processing, exist to serve the greater purpose.
Within a day I was seeing light, shape, and shadow more in line with Julia’s vision and began working towards the expression of my own interpretation of those same elements. The technique and style has uses in all forms of photography and most certainly isn’t limited solely to architectural photography. But julia shines here too. Her background as an architect and enthusiasm for that discipline was truly enlightening. The locations were chosen after extensive background research, scouting, and serious homework adding immensely to the overall experience.
If you only want to shoot better snapshots or dog pics, this is probably not the course for you. It’s definitely not a paint-by-numbers system. Instead, Julia teaches one how to see and then create something truly tangible that conveys the emotion, feel, and essence of what you see in your mind’s eye. Julia’s intelligence, pleasant attitude, and non-judgmental demeanor combine with her deep technical knowledge of everything photography to create a completely unique experience. As a bonus, I was given a precious glimpse inside the mind of a truly gifted artist whose generous nature allowed her to completely share her thoughts and feelings about the craft and her methods.
In the course of just a few all-too-short days, my entire approach to photography has evolved for the better. My strengths were supported, my weaknesses ignored ( or gently tweaked), and my feel for the complete process was developed immeasurably. My original goal was to learn how she makes the magic she does. Mission accomplished, plus so much more.“

“The (en)Visionography Workshop in New York City was well worth it as Julia is an excellent teacher and advisor. You feel comfortable asking any kind of question and getting a helpful response. The workshop is a great value!”
– Jim Tomarken – NY, United States
“I really learned a lot, especially about the artist’s vision and how one can express it in a photograph!
Julia has amazing talent and is always eager to teach!”
– Vipul Patel – OH, United States
“It has been a privilege to be in Julia Anna mentorship program. Stepping from classical landscape into the world of fine art is a drastic shift, albeit one that speaks to my heart. Julia Anna’s program is the modern-day version of studying and working with a master. It has been fun, challenging, and extremely rewarding. Learning how to create images through (en)Visionograghy instead of snap shots has been what I have been hoping for in my work.
It’s obvious from Julia Anna’s images, business and interacting with her that she gives 100% to these endeavors. It is such a gift that she brings that same enthusiasm and dedication to the mentorship program. She is quite giving and really wants me to excel. Ready and willing to answer any of my questions. She meets me where I am in my growth as a photographer and gives me the tools and know-how to take the next leap (studying with her steps become leaps!).
The program might seem pricy, but breaking it down to the amount of individualized attention and the amount of material she provides, it is a great deal. It is also so helpful that it is ongoing, (not just 4-6 intense days of a workshop), which helps to integrate the skills and knowledge and work on the finer details. The value far exceeds the cost.
If someone is interested in developing and honing their skills to create black and white fine art images I highly recommend Julia Anna’s mentorship program!”
– Jacelyn Bronte – Montana, United States
“I attended Julia’s workshop in Toronto recently and found it overwhelmingly helpful.
The techniques I learned have the potential to take my images to another level. It’s going to be fun conceiving and bringing to life future images using the techniques and insights that I learned from Julia at the workshop, and from her tutorials, videos and books. And Toronto is a great place with many photo opportunities so that was just an added bonus.”
“I have been a photographer for at least 50 years. I’ve owned my own photography business, taught photography, and conducted workshops. This workshop was was truly a learning experience.
Julia is a very good photographer, artist, and technician with Photoshop. I noticed while out in the field she makes it a point to visit each photographer and help with their composition or some technical aspect with the camera. In the classroom, Julia is a wonderful teacher. She explains things thoroughly and answers all questions.
I strongly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in Black and White Architectural Photography.”
– John Campbell – Michigan, US
“I recently completed a portfolio review/analysis, via a virtual meeting, with Julia. By the meeting’s end, I discovered more about my personal photography than I ever expected.
I gained appreciation for the importance of determining the vision (story) I want my final images to convey, and through analysis of volume, light, composition, etc., the best way to process to “present” that story. Some of the suggested changes were small. Others were more extensive. However, none were obvious to me before our meeting.
If you want to improve your photography in a relaxed atmosphere, with a truly inspiring individual, I recommend Julia without reservation.”
“Julia Anna’s workshops are more than just full of information and expert teaching. She offers a fresh, new way of evaluating imagery! This allows you to go out into the photographic world to appraise your photographic targets & creations …in a new light. But not the clichéd, idiomatic “in a new light” – no; Julia Anna literally shows how to look for light in ways you may have never previously considered and then how to evaluate, work and edit that light in your images.
When she critiqued our own creations, she didn’t merely apply a blanket, boilerplate fix, or recommendation. She carefully evaluated every image, individually recommending improvements in a careful, considered way. It was enlightening to understand her thought process and methods!
Ms. Gospodarou is not just another award-winning photographer. She brings the unique practice of (architectural) drawing & shading to the photographic world, to more expertly deal with the lighting & perspective nuances of photography. This is what she passes on to her students and why all photographers, of any genre, should take her class.”
“I have been a big fan of Julia Anna’s work for a few years now and read her blog religiously. However, I could never get my schedule to line up when she had workshops. I say this to say that sometimes like the big blockbuster movie you waited too long to see after reading all of the reviews, and that everyone else has seen, that your expectations are much bigger than the actual experience when you finally see it. I can tell you this was not the case after just completing her most recent workshop in NYC.
My personal experience exceeded my own high expectations going in of what this course would deliver. Whether you are a professional or amateur like myself you will come away a better photographer than when you walked into the class. She combines both the craft side of the technical knowledge you need to know to understand and execute [ shooting and post processing] of her philosophy of [en]Visionography combined with the vision side of how to both think like and create like an artist.
She can explain intricate technical details of layers and masking with photoshop, or speak passionately and eloquently on 16-century painters, or the vision of any number of practicing modern architects. Not many can do that. No question is too basic or too complex that while you may be in a class with people more advanced than you or less so, all are made to feel very welcome and comfortable in learning with her.
I would highly recommend it to everyone who wants to take their photography to another level whatever that genre might be as it extends far beyond architectural shots. I am so looking to put into practice what she taught us, with the hope one day of coming closer in capturing something that she would consider, ”yes this is fine art, Lance.”
“I recently joined Julia on her Tokyo (en)Visionography workshop. What a fabulous workshop, she is a very engaging and extremely knowledgeable teacher and a wonderful person and it is a privilege to be able to learn from her. It is an intensive and busy course, an excellent value for money.
This was my second workshop with Julia and I hope to do more and highly recommend her to you if you are interested in exploring creativity and want to further develop your vision as well as learn more of the technical aspects of post-processing applicable to (en)Visionograhy.”
“I’ve taken more than 20 photography courses since the pandemic began, and as measured by the number of unique things I learned that will take my photography to a whole new level, Julia’s three-day B&W course was the best. If you are interested in improving your B&W photography by learning the thinking and the processing she uses to create her award-winning B&W architecture photos, I recommend her three-day workshops without any hesitation.
Not only am I stunned at the photos she creates for her own portfolio, I’m delighted to be acquiring the unique skills that she developed to do what she does. In person, she’s a genuinely friendly person with an upbeat attitude and a good sense of humor.
I know you can read the description of her workshop on her website, but I thought I would try to bring my three-day experience to life for you. We spent every morning in a very nice boardroom, learning principles and practices, and every afternoon we went out to shoot some very interesting buildings she had already scouted out. That combination of “classroom” learning and shooting was a perfect blend for me.
In the classroom sessions worked on getting grounded in the principles and theory behind Julia’s B&W processing. Back when I was in college, theory and principles sessions were often boring, but this one definitely wasn’t. It’s one thing to read her book and to watch her videos – which I did in advance and highly recommend if you want to get the most out of her workshop – but it’s very different when you can interact with her and ask questions along the way.
In the processing sessions, Julia translated the theory and principles we learned into practice by processing one of her own photos – from start to finish. She began with the original out-of-camera image and reviewed her thinking as she was composing the shot. That was super helpful to me. Even on location, she was thinking about her composition in a much deeper way than I had ever done in my photos.
She explained her vision for that particular photo (and how she got to that vision), and then she took us through every processing step, from global edits, to making selections, to local edits, to final processing. She transformed “ordinary” into extraordinary right before our eyes, step by step, and we got to ask questions when we didn’t understand something.
In the portfolio review session, she applied her thinking and her processing skills to student photos, and that was equally interesting. Seeing her work on her own photo was fabulous, but seeing how she brought a photo from each student to a whole new place was even more inspiring. She took a photo I submitted in a whole new direction, and it was stunning how much she improved my original processing by shaping the light to make it dramatically more three-dimensional. She did the same with the photos of the other students, and I learned as much from seeing her work on their photos as I learned from her work on my photo.
Many student photos were of architecture, but some people had much more landscape experience than architecture experience, and they submitted landscape photos. It made no difference – she applied the exact same principles and processing methods to their landscape photos as well. In every case, she took what was already a good photo and brought it to a whole new level, creating three dimensions from two. It was a morning of learning I won’t forget for a long time.
In the practical part of the workshop, we shot some very interesting Chicago architecture. I lived in the Chicago area for a decade much earlier in my life and I thought I knew its sites fairly well, but Julia took us to buildings I’d never seen, and she found new perspectives and new compositions for places I had been to previously.
I learned a huge amount in Julia’s workshop, but I also realized how much more I have yet to learn, and will be taking another workshop from her again in the future. And one great bonus from her in-person workshop – I made friends with all the other students in the small class, every one of whom was a really good photographer. I look forward to staying in touch with them! “
Dan Simpson – San Francisco, CA
“I attended the London (en)Visionography workshop this year. I had seen these fantastic Black and white images and wondered how they were created.
If you’re interested in developing your photography from point and shoot to something closer to creating art then this is for you. Julia challenges you well before you put a camera in your hand to think about what you are doing. The program is a mix of philosophy, the practical, and the craft of developing your images using photoshop tools. I have been doing a lot of landscapes in recent times and was looking to develop another string to my bow so to speak.
This course certainly opened up another door and I’m looking forward to experimenting with my new knowledge.”
– Eamonn Quinn – Dublin, Ireland
“I recently completed a 3-day (en)Visionography workshop with Julia in New York City and could not be happier or recommend Julia more highly.
This was one of the best and most productive workshops I have ever attended. Julia’s expertise, coupled with her obvious and infectious enthusiasm for the subject matter, make her a uniquely qualified and gifted instructor who delivers a very effective learning experience. The format was ideal: Mornings spent in the classroom discussing art and technique and afternoons in the field putting that knowledge to use and honing skills. I
f you want to dramatically improve your appreciation for and skills in Fine Art B&W Photography, sign up for one of Julia’s workshops or courses now.”
– Alan Grate – US
“I stumbled across Julia’s amazing fine art photography a couple of years ago when I was looking for an architectural photography workshop that I could attend to improve my architectural photography skills. I registered for a 3-day (en)Visionography workshop with Julia in New York City right as the pandemic started. After an almost two-year wait due to the pandemic, the workshop was finally held and, boy, was it worth the wait !!
I found Julia to be not only an excellent teacher, but a wonderful, engaging person as well. Julia is very passionate about her craft and she is more than willing to share her passion and expertise. Her classroom session not only focused on the technical aspects of fine art photography, but also the mental preparation that needs to be done prior to ever opening up your camera bag. The techniques and concepts that she taught to (en)Vision a final image upfront not only applies to architectural fine art photography, but to other genres as well. Her approach for making selections, and “painting with light” were very enlightening and gave me a renewed excitement for what I can do with my own photography. I can hardly wait to try her techniques and concepts on my own photography.
I would highly recommend Julia’s workshop to anyone who wants to take their photography to another level. I hope to take another one myself in the future to continue my own development. Thanks, Julia.”
“I am so glad a friend told me about Julia Anna Gospodarou’s New York (en)Visionography workshop. I learned far more than I expected and it was well worth the pandemic-related postponements.
Julia Anna taught me about the mental and emotional preparation that needs to be done before even picking up the camera. I have heard these things before but this was the first time I began to understand. Her demonstrations of ‘Photography Drawing’ opened up new possibilities for me. I followed up the workshop with a one-on-one session which I highly recommend as it helped solidify the method. I can see that I still have much to learn and practice but she has given me the tools to express myself in a new way.”
“I went into this workshop with a strong background in photography and post-processing and came out with a much better understanding of how to think about setting up a B&W composition in the field to better utilize post-processing tools.
The intense classroom work coupled with shooting is the perfect mix for those that wish to take their B&W work to another level. Unlike some workshops that just focus on getting you to the right place at the right time, Julia’s approach explains and demonstrates how adding different layers of tonal contrast can take an image to the next level.
While the techniques in Photoshop are simple to do, seeing them put to use on your image and images of others in the class is a powerful way to reinforce both the concept and the technique.
This workshop, more than any other, has had a profound impact on my B&W work.”
“Some years ago I happened across Julia Anna’s work, possibly in one of the webinars she has done for Topaz. At any rate I found her work stunning, both dramatic and subtle at the same time, and I quickly became a fan. Someone capable of work at that level is someone I want to learn from. I picked up a copy of her ebook, “From Basics to Fine Art”, co-authored with Joel Tjintjelaar, and read it cover to cover.
To attend one of her workshops became something I would like to do someday but the scheduling never quite worked out until recently when she offered several virtual workshops online via Zoom. A virtual workshop can never fully take the place of an in-person workshop but, hats off to Julia Anna, she did a wonderful job of it and I was extremely pleased with the experience. In particular, the detailed image reviews and demonstrations of recommended improvements in the images exceeded my expectations.
She is an excellent instructor, being very generous with her time and experience, eager to share her knowledge, and sincerely concerned for everyone’s learning experience. I recommend her highly without hesitation.
“Excellent workshop! I wanted to write and tell you that I thought the online workshop you conducted with us this past weekend was excellent. As a beginner when it comes to any kind of serious fine art photography, and one with very few post-processing skills at the moment, I was a little worried that it might be too advanced for me. But I wanted to take it because I’ve always admired your photography, and I wanted to learn from you. And I’m glad I did. I feel that it was exactly what I needed to inspire me to go beyond where I am at now.
I like how you were able to teach to all levels of students. You don’t talk down to the class, but you manage to provide real substantive content for all skill levels of (en)Visionographers. You have both patience and tireless energy in your teaching style.
So, thank you for a great workshop. I will continue to follow you and to learn from you. And hopefully maybe one day, we will meet in person. Thank you so much.”
– Jim Smith – Okatie, USA
“Two days with Julia provided me with more information and answers to questions than I was able to find on my own in the past two years. The level of detail in her instructions is so complete that you will have very few questions at the end.
If you’ve been considering taking a class from Julia, don’t wait any longer, just go ahead. You will be glad you did. I’ve advanced multiple levels in my photography from taking her class.”
– Mike Packard – San Diego, USA
“While I am still processing all the information and updating/polishing my notes after sleeping for 5 hours, I wanted to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH not only for a wonderful and inspiring but also very practical course! In the last 8 years
I attended several workshops and several 1-1 (which I usually prefer by now) and this has been for me the best course really because it really all comes together here. Had multiple EUREKA moments where you basically confirmed my own thoughts, confirming I am not completely crazy ;-) Especially, the session on day 1 rang so many bells in my head I now want to follow-up upon on.
Plenty of points to follow-up and work on. So much as a quick feedback on a brilliant course!”
– David Ringel – Germany
“I took up photography in 2015 as an injury stopped me playing golf and I needed something to fill in the spare time. I spent 4 years getting to a good level of skill, so much so that I retired early to concentrate on photography. I do a lot of landscapes but started taking architecture photos in 2019 and working more and more in black and white as I am drawn to shapes, tones and textures. I have had some success with images being published and prints sold but frankly have been frustrated at just taking shots anyone else can take.
Then I saw some of Julia’s images and was blown away with her originality and artistic vision. Her work was far in advance of where mine was at and I purchased her book which really helped me move forward. I didn’t hesitate to sign up for an on-line workshop with follow-up mentoring and I am so glad I did.
The workshop filled in some knowledge gaps and has given me greater understanding and confidence of how to reflect my own vision in my images. The structure and presentation of the workshop was excellent and Julia has a very comfortable teaching style in that she does not impose her style on you but encourages you to use the techniques of photo drawing to develop or express your own. She also has so much enthusiasm it is impossible not to become excited by the possibilities.
I came away from the workshop with a head full of ideas, new skills, a better understanding of how to see the light and how to use it and fully motivated to go and create my own art.
I would highly recommend attending one of Julia’s workshops – and buying her book. I wish I had found her earlier in my photography career and am certainly glad that I eventually did. I think this is the step that breaks me free from the technical shackles and unleashes my artistic potential.”
“I am writing to thank you so much for the workshop. It was very exciting to watch you work. Your explanation of your way of thinking and seeing a photograph was very helpful and inspired me to make better photographs. You have also given me confidence when thinking about my photography.
Thank you and I hope we can meet again in the future.”
– Carlos A. Zevallos, USA
“I have just attended a great workshop in London given by Julia Anna.
What a wonderful instructive course which has really inspired me to perfect my B & W fine art photography. I learnt so much as Julia Anna shared her processing methodology in full and easy to follow detail.
It was a privilege to attend and I look forward to putting my newly learned skills in to practice.
Thanks Julia Anna”
– Alan Thunhurst – London, UK
“Julia, thank you for a truly enlightening and very enjoyable Photo workshop in Paris. It was a great workshop with a good balance of on-site shoot and off-site tutorials. I now have a much better grasp of Long Exposure Photography and how to formulate a personal vision to turn a decent shot into a fine work of art through your systematic process of photographic drawing through a set of leading software tools.
You are truly the queen of Long Exposure. I took away many other things, among which are tips on better usage of my GFX50S. I will always remember your famous slogan after I took every LE shot, ‘is it sharp’. One can never assume as we jointly learned that one famous monument in Paris is shaking all the time and would not land well with LE shot.
Most of all, thank you for a wonderful, productive and truly enriching experience.”
– Tiak Koon Loh – Hong Kong
“I had the pleasure of attending Julia’s three-day Fine Art Architecture Workshop in LA in March 2019 and it was an excellent workshop!
Julia brings a scientist/engineer’s clarity of process and thought to her art and her process of creating images. She also is a terrific teacher and is able to communicate her ideas and techniques with her students with great clarity.
She is the rare combination of a truly gifted artist, with a unique vision, and a scientist who has thought long and hard about her craft, distilling her process into clearly articulated ideas. It was truly a pleasure to spend time in the classroom and the field with Julia.”
– Raaj Shinde – Michigan, USA
“Thank you again for a fantastic workshop! I am shocked and delighted to learn it doesn’t take every photoshop tool to create your amazing images! Rather a thorough knowledge of light and what it does makes all the difference. I’ll be!
I am also so impressed you are conducting a workshop and doing a fantastic job, in a foreign language! I found you to be highly professional and quite kind.”
– Jacelyn Bronte – Bozeman, USA
“Julia’s workshop in New York entitled (en)Visionography – The Art and Craft of B&W Processing was for me a memorable experience. Dissatisfied with the contemplative approach I have been using over the last too many decades and with the U point technology, I was searching for an approach to get a better control of light in my outdoor photography.
My research led me to B&W photography, my first love, long exposure and Julia. Studying her pictures, I was very impressed by her ability to “paint” with light in order to put emphasis on lines, textures and volumes to capture my eyes and lead them to the essence of the picture.
From the tutorial material she made available on her website, I understood quickly that she had the ability to explain clearly in a comprehensive way the artistic and technical foundations of her artistic vision; the (en)Visionography.
My expectations for the NY workshop were really high and she exceeded them all. First, her communication to get us prepared for the workshop was excellent and to the point. It did cover everything from details on the location and schedule to maps to locate the different sites to photograph as well as homework to prepare ourselves. The workshop was divided into two parts; a classroom part in the morning and a practical part, the second part of the day, to apply what has been covered in the classroom. She was always around us, leading us up front, and answering questions as well as giving advice.
Julia is a unique professional artist and educator. She can reveal, in the pace of a breath mixed with passion, the intricate details of the composition of Renaissance paintings and explain, with an unleash generosity, how we can perform alike in Photoshop on our pictures by means of tools like channel selections, gradients, dodging & burning, luminosity masks and much more.
I look forward to working with Julia again in the future and trust me on this one, if I could attend only one workshop in B&W photography, it would be with Julia!”

“I attended Julia Anna’s NYC Workshop in June 2018. The workshop was outstanding! Julia Anna’s attention to detail began with all of her pre-workshop communications. She was thorough and extremely responsive.
The workshop content was exactly what I needed – roughly half classroom and half shooting. The shooting gave you the opportunity to practice what what was covered in the classroom, and Julia Anna was always available for questions and clarification. The examples she used in the classroom were perfect to explain the concepts and always reinforced the vision topics covered on Day 1.
Julia Anna is one of those unique educators who is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, personable and engaging. She goes out of her way to provide exactly what the participant needs or asks for. I look forward to working with Julia Anna in the future!”
“I have always been fascinated by buildings and architectural design and this has been a constant theme in my photography from my youth. When I found and read Julia Anna and Joel Tjintjelaar’s book, “From Basic to Fine Art”, I knew I came onto something special and my approach to architectural photography started to change. When I learned of one of Julia Anna’s workshops to be held in New York City I was excited and I jumped on the chance to be a part of it and learn more. I was not at all disappointed. The workshop was taken me to a new level and more creative way of approaching my art.
Julia Anna was with us every step of the way offering her insights, answering our questions on software, her approach and post-processing techniques, and suggestions to help us all improve our skills. We were her main focus for the weekend. Her teaching style was relaxed, very informative, easy to follow and inspiring.
Being in the company of 13 other accomplished international photographers and Julia Anna for three days was very intense, exhilarating, fun, enjoyable, exhausting, inspiring and definitely something I would do again in a heartbeat. Another benefit besides learning from Julia Anna was that everyone was willing to share experiences, tips and tricks, how to’s and their experiences with both equipment and software.
One part of the workshop that I felt was extremely worthwhile was seeing Julia Anna’s approach to editing the images the group sent her as part of the workshop. She took my image which was a good image and raised it up several levels.
Julia Anna’s approach, (en)Visonography, is a game changer for anyone looking to improve their Fine Art Photography. It can be applied not only to Architectural subjects, but to landscapes, portraiture, still life or any genre of photography that you are interested in.
If you are seriously interested in improving your Black & White photography, the best suggestion I have is to get to one of Julia Anna’s (en)Visionagraphy Workshop!”
“Thank you so much for what was an eye opening to not just the possibilities of post processing, but ultimately, my own vision and how I will capture/create images in the future. From the moment you discussed your own ideas of (en)Visionography to sharing your own workflow I knew I was going to have my own, long established, mindsets challenged.
What helped me even more was your insightful critiques of not just my own images but also those of my fellow participants. Add to this the opportunity to explore the streets of a great city while having fun and I enjoyed a very comprehensive three days of learning.
I cannot recommend your workshop enough to anyone who wants to create images with a fresh approach in the company of like minded people.”
“After attending Julia’s workshop in New York, I can say that her workshops are definitely for the serious, discerning photographer that wants to advance their skills and creativity in black and white photography. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the workshop – the accommodations, the preparation, the structure, the lessons and, of course, the comraderie with a very diverse group of photographers from around the world.
One thing (among many) that sets Julia apart is her dedication to planning so that the workshop runs so smoothly. Another is that Julia truly focuses her efforts on education for everyone, no matter their current level, and personal instruction in the field (if you can call New York “the field”).
I have yet to encounter anyone who is as helpful and responsive to your needs as Julia. As for the workshop content, you will not be disappointed – Julia opens up a whole new world for you in great detail, and you will definitely have fun while learning it.”
“I came to Julia Anna Gospodarou’s workshop with over 40 years of photographic experience. I have won numerous photo contests, taught photo workshops and participate in Juried Art Shows in Florida where I live. I mention this to give context to my review.
The last few years I have sought to redefine my photographic style first with long exposure photography and then going back to landscapes approaching it in a more stylistic, artistic manner. As an Engineer, architecture and photographing it has always interested me. While researching architectural photography, I came across Julia Anna Gospodarou. I knew I had found a photographer that had the heart of an artist. Through her “Photography Drawing™ (PhtD)” method, she creates “a three-dimensional look and create the illusion of reality”. I was intrigued. I purchased her eBooks and video courses but knew I must attend one of her workshops one day.
Prior to the workshop, Julia sent numerous emails telling us about it, how we will travel about in NYC, hotels options, detail course synopsis, study guides, photo gear to bring, even proper clothing. A thoroughness that is greatly appreciated.
The mornings of the workshop are indoor and go over various aspects of her methods, we adjourn for lunch and then an afternoon of travel in NYC to iconic locations to photograph each day. During her lectures, Julia talked about the artistic side of her process. After creating the image, she processes it in a way to accentuate the shapes, lines, volumes and surfaces of the architectural subject through the manipulation of light and shadow, tones and texture, accentuating the interesting and diminishing the distractions. This first day was about opening your mind to photography as a true art form. For me, this was the best morning; just what I was looking for.
Following, Julia demonstrated her techniques of Photography Drawing, using Photoshop and other plug-ins she shaped the luminance of the image to guide the viewer through the subject the way the artist sees it; “to create the illusion of reality”.
Julia also critiqued participants’ images. As I did not have any architectural images to share, I shared a vertical landscape image of massive storm clouds above the Gulf of Mexico taken from a beach on St. Georges Island, FL. I have always felt this image was composed well but never felt the processing did it justice. Julia first demonstrated to the class how I composed it then, using her techniques of Photography Drawing, she shaped the light to better influence the viewer’s attention to the darker storm cloud center. This improved the image a thousand-fold. I came to this workshop to better understand her techniques and to open my mind to the possibilities of creating ART with my photography. Julia helped me to do that.
I highly recommend Julia Anna Gospodarou’s workshops and teaching materials. She is a skilled teacher and can help you to realize your potential. You will not go wrong. Plus, she is a professional Architect, she knows the buildings and how to make them look their best. Combine that with her artistic sense and photographic skills and you have a winning combination. And she is a really nice person too.”

“I recently spent 4 days in Amsterdam with Julia Anna for a private workshop, it has changed the way I see and represent the world through my camera. Her highly educated backgrounds in art, photography, architecture, and philosophy, combined with the depth and honesty of her perception, created an amazing learning experience for me. I learned to “see” volumes and shapes I never noticed before, and how to apply my own vision to them in camera and in post-production.
Her lessons on the use of light and shadow to define depth and direction have transformed how I choose my subjects, and how I process my images. Her logistics timing from hotel choice to site locations was perfect. From access to pre-trip tutorials through a final Skype lesson, she offers an amazing amount of specific information, and she is extremely generous with her time and insight.
In addition to all the help guidance, this trip was absolute fun! I will definitely be looking to join Julia Anna on another trip in the future.”
“I met Julia Anna last year in Paris where I took a private workshop with her. We worked together for 3 days studying and photographing different locations in the city and Julia Anna has been unbelievably available all day and even after the workshop hours.
Her approach to photography and especially to architecture photography is why she is internationally renowned and unanimously appreciated. This approach totally seduced me so I decided to continue studying with Julia in a mentoring program for 6 more months.
I have learned an unbelievable number of things about photography and in general, and about how to make reality your artistic vision through your photographs. Post-processing was an important part of our study because this is a vital aspect of fine art photography, and it is what can make your images stand out. Our work together has been a process of intensive learning which helped me develop a completely new and different approach to conceiving and creating my images. Because, as a matter of fact, it is one’s vision that makes your photography different from what you can see elsewhere. “
“A few years ago, I became interested in photography and began reading and using internet resources as a learning tool. I was successful in that I won international awards, and was a member of photography organizations. However, something was missing and I began searching the internet for inspiration and came across Julia’s work. I reached out to Julia and requested information about her mentoring program. The information she shared regarding her program made me realize there was more to her images than post-processing.
A couple weeks later, I decided to enroll in her mentorship program and study under her guidance. I’ve read many photography books, and viewed numerous online resources and courses, but nothing comes close to what Julia has taught me in her mentoring program through our online meetings and the assignments she provides. Her program has taught me to use my vision to capture and create fine art photography, while creating a style of my own. Julia’s attention to detail, and passion for her work, has inspired me to create my best, most meaningful work.
The first six months of the mentorship program went so well that I decided to extend my study with Julia, and also further enhance the concepts she teaches with a private photography workshop. Leading up to the workshop, Julia provided an overview of the days activities, and detailed resources to assist me in preparing, which will serve as a great resource in planning photography trips in the future. We began each day with theoretical instructional sessions, followed by shooting and instruction in the field.
Julia’s commitment to ensuring a successful workshop far exceeded my expectations. I watched Julia work in the filed and witnessed her commitment to her craft, ensuring a successful workshop, and commitment to me as her student. Not only was the workshop well-organised, informative, and interactive, it was also enjoyable. Julia was available as a resource, always motivated and friendly, and welcoming to my non-photographer spouse.”
“After attending the (en)Visionography workshop in Paris together with a very nice international group of photographers, I have the feeling that something has changed deep inside me, as for my photography approach and especially regarding B&W architecture photography.
How did that happen?… I think I was missing something before.
My first contact with Julia’s work was while searching the net for more information on long exposure photography and when finding her excellent book “From Basics to Fine Art“. The book gave me instantly the feeling to have found the right and missing thing. Reading the book with the very detailed description of Julia’s work and vision gave me the motivation to force my personal style and go in a deeper examination for the interpretation of light and shadow to use that for my work in the future. But only reading the book was too theoretical for me and I was very happy after I get the confirmation to participate at the workshop.
Participating in the workshop was the best decision I have made in the last time for my photography progress and I also have learned that nothing should limit myself in creating my personal style… And I also learned a lot of necessary work in post procession.
The very well prepared workshop was comprised of a theoretical and a practical part. We learned in a very relaxed atmosphere in the morning lessons about (en)Visionography, finding our personal style, photography drawing, negative space, light and shadow and the interaction with the geometrical surfaces and a lot of other important things. Then at the shooting sessions in the city of Paris in the very interesting chosen locations, we had also a lot of fun and we tried to apply the things we have heard about in the theoretical part.
But becoming a master is not something that is falling from sky and I think this was the first step and the next will follow. It was great workshop and I can undoubtedly recommend Julia’s workshops to everyone who wants to go deeper into B&W Architecture photography and create their own vision.”
“Shortly after I developed an interest in photography I discovered Julia Anna’s work and was immediately captivated. This was like nothing I had seen up to that point (in fact I hadn’t even imagined work like this was possible) and I followed her work with keen interest thereafter, whilst also attempting to expand my own B&W processing skills.
When the opportunity to take a workshop in New York came about I didn’t hesitate, and booked a place. I wanted to hear firsthand the thinking behind her work and processing methods. I feel this is essential to learn – reading is all very well but there no substitute to hearing the words of a master practitioner in order to truly understand the emotion and rationale behind their words and to gain a deeper understanding into their creative process.
I feel that the format of the workshop is unique, with the correct emphasis put initially on theory and finally following up with practical sessions. Each day we met in class and then we would go out shooting in the afternoon. New York has many fantastic locations to offer for those interested in architecture and cityscapes. I’m certain that this workshop will be an important milestone for me on my path in photography and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to join it. The other students were extremely friendly and that made it all the most enjoyable.
Thanks very much to Julia for sharing your passion, and for making a workshop like this possible.”
“I’ve had a love of architectural photography since I was a young adult in the ’80’s shooting with a film SLR. I used to take photos of buildings and structures using slide and B&W film. Eventually I gave up trying to capture architecture for more than 20 years. I could never get the look I wanted from the darkroom or color processing houses I used back then.
I had wanted to attend one of Julia Anna’s workshops for a couple of years and finally had the opportunity in NYC. Because I admire her work so much, my expectations were literally sky high for the workshop. Well not only did Julia Anna exceed what I thought she would offer, but she did so with an enthusiasm and energy for sharing her knowledge I wasn’t expecting. From the pre-workshop communications thru the group dinner on the final day, she was always happy to share and impart more and more of her knowledge. Not just knowledge of architectural photography and it’s post-processing methods, but also shared many of the influences that contributed to her unique vision.
If you have the opportunity and are interested in experiencing more than just another photography workshop, you should make plans to attend one of Julia Anna’s workshops. However be forewarned, you may have to compete for space getting into her workshops. Especially since I plan to attend as many future offerings as I can.”
“After reading the book “From Basics to Fine Art” written by Julia in collaboration with Joel Tjintjelaar and discovering Julia´s work I was deeply moved and triggered to start learning photography by myself. At some point I found out that there was something missing in my learning. I could find all relevant information about technique and composition in books, videos tutorials, etc, and her book and tutorials on her website delivered a lot of answers already, but there was still something unanswered to me: Why do I want to do fine art photography? What do I want to transmit? Can I do this?
The answers to these questions lie of course only within myself, but doing the private mentorship with Julia helped me a lot in understanding what is motivating me in doing fine art photography in a six months introspective journey. And not only that: During this time, I learned to see photography with different eyes, appreciating the aesthetic elements of photography, and also understanding what separates a good photograph from a great photograph.Julia has a very well developed and structured program that will lead you from the basics of photography through the history of photography and it´s great contributors towards what she calls (en)Visionography, that is for me the deeper understanding of today´s photography.
She is very disciplined in her teaching and also very patient and enthusiastic. She is able to inject you with her enthusiasm and motivate you to doing some very interesting assignments during the mentorship and to follow your own path after it.
I will never forget the experience I made during this program.”

“I am an absolute beginner to this type of photography – i.e., not experienced with long exposure, tilt shift lens, or B&W post processing techniques. I’m so glad I attended the workshop! My learning experience advanced my skills exponentially. I am a beginner, but I have artistic vision and desire. I was unsure how to express it. When I found the (en)Visionography techniques, I knew this was a process I wanted to learn and apply to my work.
Julia Anna’s workshop was amazing!! She is so gracious with her knowledge, and punctuated “big picture” concepts with the little details that enhanced my ability to capture images and produce them into fine art! In addition, she encouraged me to dig deep within myself to start to actualize my own vision for my photography. I now have a process for evaluating a given scene or subject, and captuaring the image so that I can extract from the capture my vision of it. I learned the techniques for capturing long exposure subjects — something that requires a methodology, patience and repitition. Finally, I’ve been exposed to processing techniques that I was simply unaware of — and provided tools that will enabe me to apply the techniques/workflow to my images. I liked the sense of community that Julia Anna built among us and how we all learned “tips and tricks” from one another as well. This was such a nurturing learning experience. The (en)Visionography workshop is a must-do for the serious fine art photographer.”
“I just wanted to express how much I enjoyed your workshop in New York City. Not only did you share your technique and your thoughts about long exposure photography but you delved into what it means to create art. I was very happy to find that you were so approachable and easy to talk to. The format of the workshop was fast paced but at the same time fun and enjoyable. I liked that you were with us the whole time. I’ve been on workshops where the instructors give you a lecture and then tell you to go shoot for a few hours. I liked being able to ask you questions in the field as we were shooting. The photos that people are most impressed with are the ones I learned to make in your workshop. It really was a fun experience and I hope to do it again in another city.
I would highly recommend Julia’s workshop to anyone who’s serious in photography. Either you are a hobbyist or a professional looking to get to the next level Julia’s workshop was fantastic. She really spent a lot of time sharing her time and her knowledge and really put a tremendous effort into making sure everybody had a great time and learned a lot.”

“I have known Julia for several years and consider her to be one of the most talented fine art photographers in the world, all confirmed by her incredible resume of international achievements. Her artistic style is unique, creative and stunningly beautiful. She is truly a master fine art photographer.
I have had the opportunity to learn from Julia and to shoot with her on several occasions. It was immediately evident to me that she is unbelievably passionate about her work, which you would expect, but that she was equally passionate about my work. Through her workshops and mentoring programs, Julia has been an integral part of my growth as a fine art photographer. Her teaching style in all-encompassing – from how to think in terms of artistic vision, how to approach a subject, how the volumes and forms of that subject can be used in a final fine art image, and how to apply varying techniques to process the base photograph. She does not force her style on her students, but rather explains in detail what she sees and what is interesting to her. As a student, this style allows you to incorporate her way of thinking through the creative process into creating your own unique images and finding your unique style.
Simply put, Julia gives you the skills to grow as a fine art photographer and she takes great joy in seeing her students grow as artists.Learning from Julia is not just intensive and packed with valuable information, it is also fun and exciting. You have a great time with her.
She is very kind and is considerate of your style and skill level. It is so easy to feel comfortable with her. Her interest in your work is sincere and very apparent the moment you meet her. Very few fine art photographers of her amazing talent offer to teach students so completely.
I highly recommend Julia’s workshops and mentoring programs to anyone with the desire to take their work to a level that they may have never thought possible. Julia delivers. She delivered for me, and my time learning with her is perhaps the best investment I have made in my growth as a fine art photographer.”
“I believe Julia is one the best fine art photographers in the world. I fell in love with her work as soon as I discovered it many months ago. My appreciation for it only deepens with every new photograph she shares. She is tremendously talented and shows a very unique vision that allows her to keep reinventing herself and the world through her photography. This is probably the hardest thing to achieve for an artist but she excels in it. Apart from the obvious estheticism and incredible atmospheres she creates, the most interesting aspect of her work to me is her skills of using light to create volumes and presence. I am convinced her being an architect is no stranger to that, and she behaves just like a sketch artist or a painter by using a photograph as a canvas. This explains why one always marvels at her natural sense of beauty, composition and lighting. It is not a surprise she was praised and awarded by the best fine art magazines, photographers and international competitions in the world. And they will keep coming.
I consider myself lucky because I actually met her in person during one of the workshops she organized in the US. Not only she is passionate about her photography, the nicest person and a lot of fun to shoot with, it is obvious she really enjoys interacting with and mentoring other photographers. She is sincerely interested in your work and in helping you define your own style in order to help you grow as an independent fine art photographer, without trying to push you one way or another. She does not hesitate to share her thoughts and vision about art, what makes an artist, and how to become one. She explains in details how to approach a subject, what she thinks makes a picture or specific composition interesting, and how to create presence. On the technical side, she is also more than happy to show pictures before and after processing, and share valuable information about post-processing techniques.
In a word, this was an incredible experience and probably the best investment in my career as a fine art photographer. I could never have learned so much without meeting her in person and would do it again in a heartbeat. Her workshops and other mentoring programs are designed to make you grow as an independent fine art photographer and I highly recommend them for artists looking for a boost in their career.”
“I first came across Julia Anna’s amazing work back in Sept 2012 on Google+ and it was during that time I just started photography. Coming from an architecture and art background, I have always been interested in architectural photography. When I found her work in 2012 I was blown away by such amazing architectural photography, something new that open my perception in BW Fine Art photography, I never knew art and architecture can be combined to create such beautiful architectural photographs. Following her work for the past year is one thing, and I told myself I had to meet her one day. So the day came when she visited San Francisco and I had the opportunity to meet and learned from her in person. The 2nd time I met her was during the recent Chicago Fine Art Architectural workshop.
During both times, I have learned so much from Julia, not only is she a wonderful and generous person, she goes all out to teach you and making sure you learn and gain as much, anything and everything about BW Fine Art photography. She is very encouraging, always willing to share her knowledge, her vision and she would guide you to follow your personal vision. Where I am in photography now, I have to say I owe it to her for being such a awesome mentor and teacher, always giving me support and encouragement along the way. I highly recommend her workshop to everyone. You will not only excel in BW Fine Art photography, you will gain a good friend in Julia. “

“Searching through the internet and looking for inspiration for my photography work, I came across Julia’s work. There was something that resonated with me and was drawn to her work and found her mentorship program through her website. From my initial contact with her and through the mentorship program she has had a tremendous impact in my work and gave me a different perspective on photography in it being a work of art.
Julia is so knowledgeable and willing to share what she knows and I found that captivating. I liked how each program is tailor-made for each student and thoroughness in assessing where one’s skill level and limitations. During the mentorship, she would explain everything as many times as I need to understand. Julia inspired me to take a second, third look, and evaluate my subjects with a whole new perspective ask myself lots of questions before capturing the image, thus sparking a new creativity and approach in my work. There were times where I found the work challenging especially in Photoshop because I had never used it but with her encouragement and patience I came out better. My take away on Photoshop from her was: know the tools you use and need and know them well that’s a very small percentage of what one can do with Photoshop.
I have read a number of books on photography but Julia’s mentorship program is the best thing that I ever did for my photography and I stand proud to have been transformed and impacted in such a positive way.
When I look at my images gracing my walls I feel so satisfied and fulfilled and I know in the future my work will be an inspiration to other people because it’s a representation of my vision and personal style. There is absolutely no doubt that Julia knows her stuff and that I would recommend her mentorship to others. You will not regret it but actually it will be one of the best things to do for your own photography, join the mentorship program.”
“Julia is a true professional in her approach to photography. Julia’s in-depth expertise and energetic dedication are especially evident in her B&W Fine Art Photography courses. Her Workshop includes comprehensive in-class presentations and discussions as well as exciting internships.
Julia’s goal is to see every one of her students excel in both technical and creative aspects of photography and to be proud of their accomplishments, while always striving to continue learning and getting better. Without question she is at the top of the list of the best. Being a beginner to the world of Architecture B&W Fine Art and long exposure Photography, I attempted to “teach myself” with manuals and self-help guides but it was just a lesson in frustration.
Taking Julia’s workshop was the best thing I ever did: her natural teaching style gave me the confidence I needed to take the kind of photos I always dreamed about. I highly recommend Julia Anna Gospodarou for your next photography course, workshop or any tutorial. Julia has a real gift for “keeping it simple”, cutting through the technical jargon and leaving her students with an understanding of what it takes to get those great shots.
Thanks to Julia, I now look at photography as an absolutely joyous passion, and I love the results! Thoroughly enjoyed the Workshop! Julia is relaxed and sets comfortable, cheerful tone. She helps you learn from whatever level you are at. Her pedagogy considers adult learning needs, making everyone feel good about what they have accomplished while pointing out what needs to be corrected. Also appreciated having the opportunity to have my shots critiqued and better understand how computer software can enhance one’s photos.
Julia is a dynamic and knowledgeable instructor. She incorporates theory as well as enough hands on practice so you can immediately apply the theory. You learn about how to compose photos, and then how to crop and adjust them so that you end up with the best photo. She also keeps the classes small so that you have lots of individual teaching. In addition, it was a fun workshop too.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. You created an exciting learning experience and educated my “eye”. I’m shooting every day from then. Your passion and critical vision have energized me. Thank you!”
“Julia Anna Gospodarou is simply one of the best black and white fine artists of our time. When I first discovered her work, it took my breath away. Her use of light perfectly cascades over beautiful, simple curves throughout her architectural photography.
As an architect herself, she has a unique vision and ability to capture what must be the pinnacle of each architect’s design, ultimately memorializing it in photographic history. But Julia’s work is only surpassed by her gentle spirit and kindness as an instructor. She willingly and patiently imparts her gifts to other photographers, sharing how to see and then execute a vision. If you are considering attending one of her workshops,
I highly recommend you take advantage of what will likely be for you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shoot architecture with and learn from one of the world’s best photographers.”

“For more then a year I was looking around to find a new style for my Photography. After finding Julia’s website and seeing her fantastic B&W fine art portfolio I was convinced that this is the way I should go. After exchanging a few emails I received extended study material which I continue studying. Eventually I went to Athens to spend some time with her and follow a private workshop. Julia keeps the theoretical part, 2 hours every day, very structured with very nice presentations, encouraging you continuously and answering any question you may have.
Julia brings you back to the basic of architectural photography and goes all the way with you to the fine art B&W architectural photography. From basic composition, developing your own vision, Photography Drawing are just a few of the so many things we reviewed together with Julia. She also goes trough her full post-processing workflow in one of her own awarded photos. In the field Julia brings you to the nicest spots in Athens – in my case it was also an extended Calatrava tour!
Julia continuously focuses on you, making sure you will make progress. After 3 days I went home and was very happy with a portfolio of 12 long exposure photos and about 15 other architectural photos. Julia, besides a well-accomplished architect who collaborated with famous names in the International architecture, is a top B&W fine art photographer. She helps you understanding architects and their work. She has great pedagogic skills, is calm and always there to help you.
Following this workshop, which I highly recommend, was one of the best decisions I took for the ongoing development of my photography. I wanted to stretch myself and get past my own limits, which I did, thanks to Julia!”
“After purchasing Julia Anna Gospodarou and Joel Tjintjelaar’s e-book From Basics To Fine Art – Black and White PhotographyI knew this is the style I want to focus on and excel at. I truly admire the work of both authors.
I had the privilege to to be part of Julia’s Chicago workshop, she was extremely thorough and detailed from pre-planning to post. She works with each of us to develop our individual styles and guided us to the next level in our photography journey. She pushes you to understand your vision and helps you express that in your work. She genuinely wants to push you to be a better artist. She held a one-on-one video conference for the post-workshop; she provided very constructive feedback on my images.
I found this experience truly invaluable, you will develop a better sense and eye for architectural photography. Thank you Julia, you truly delivered!”
“I came across Julia her work when ordering the e-book “From Basics To Fine Art – Black and White Photography”. When reading the e-book i was impressed about the approach and how Julia and Joël share their knowledge. The way about explaining things in depth has triggered me to learn more about their work and methods. When i heard about the 3 day workshop in Amsterdam there was one spot left and after contacting Julia I could participate. The pre-planning and information is detailed and prepared very well. Every day we started with a theoretical session for a few hours. After the sessions we went out shooting. We did several things in and around Amsterdam from architecture of buildings and bridges to classical shots of the canals. During the post part of the workshop we had several mail contacts for questions and a video chat about processing and more.
Her explanations, answers and advice are clear and extensive. Julia is a fine teacher with a great vision and a lot of knowledge. I learned about vision, light, shapes, post processing and more. Also how to approach things in a other way than i was used to. These things will help me to develop myself more. The tools she reached me are valuable and complementary in the complete process from taking the image to the final image. I can for sure recommend a workshop with Julia to anyone who wants to learn and develop in Fine Art Photography”
“Photography has always been a passion of mine. A few years into my journey I found that I had an affinity to black and white. But soon after, I lost my my drive. I started to see limitations in expressing my vision which when I came across Julia’s work. Not only she’s truly talented but I truly related to her work, her vision and expression. She’s very passionate about her work and working with her has opened my eyes and made me see things from a completely new perspective.
I did a 6-months mentoring program with Julia and I am still amazed at the work I was able to create while working with her. Each stage of our working is carefully planned and executed to contribute and further my vision and creativity. Julia has inspired me to create original work each and every time and I continue to push myself in order to find my own identity as a photographer. She’s a true inspiration, an artist, a great photographer and I don’t think I would be able to learn from anyone else so quickly. To be able to learn from someone who is so willing to teach every aspect of photography so selflessly.
All I can say is that “Thank you very much” for believing in me at this pivotal time of my journey.”
“Meeting Julia Anna Gospodarou has been a decisive step on my short photographic way. As a beginner it puts me in the next level. With Julia Anna, I learnt techniques of course: in post processing and shooting long exposures, and I’m still using the complete materials she gives to prepare the workshop. But, what I got is more of that.
With her natural way of teaching on a conversation mode, with her open mindedness, empathy and kindness I gently entered into her vision to finally begin to find mine. As we all know, Julia is a gifted and meticulous artist. It is amazing to see how easily she shares her knowledge. My very bad part was post processing and she took time to decorticate her images and explain her method step by step. Not so much are generous and humble enough to do that. And tricks are always given with a smile and a good word.
With Julia, equipment and software are taken for what they are: tools to give birth to our vision. Not less, not more. And she teaches how to use them at there best, not to show off.
Going through her city to shoot buildings she knows as a photographer and an architect as well is, of course, a fantastic journey. During this trip we talked about pictures, lines, exposure, time, security guards, lenses, philosophy, tripods, laptops, music, life, clouds, angles, traffic jam, shadows, us, but, most of all, we can also stay silent if it needs. Nothing to prove with Julia, just improve. Julia is cool and smart. I still feel the benefits of this workshop that I take for a kind of personal development experience as well. My interest for art in general increased and new projects and envies are coming back in me.
One moving instant that I keep in mind is the moment she told me how to close the eyes to see more clearly the light on post processing files. Yes, with her kind support I discovered that sweetness should actually be my key to enter darkness.”
“I have been taking photos for over 30 years as a hobby, first with film, now with digital. Over that period, I have taken many in-person and on-line courses.
Julia Anna’s Intro to Black and White Fine Art Photography is far and away the best I have taken. Her assignments are challenging, stretching, rewarding. She enabled me to understand that the camera is a tool that I can — and should — control to express myself, rather than to leave the results to chance, good luck, or heavy post processing.
The photograph as taken, she instructed, is merely one step in a deep process of introspection, reflection, honest critique of one’s own work, and never settling for “good enough.” She explains that the experience begins with the creative urge for self expression, then intense self reflection to determine how best to incorporate that urge in a vision, and finally the specific steps to enhance the image to express the vision. She is patient, supportive, demanding, inspiring, visionary and responsive.
I feel privileged to have worked with her and hope to do so again. If she’ll let me.”

“As a full-time architectural photographer, this was the first time that I ever had the chance to be in the presence of and learn from someone that is an inspiration. It is a powerful incident in its own right and with that yields a certain phenomenon that is hard to describe but, to put it simply, it enabled me to discover a side of my photography that I knew was there, it just hadn’t been realized yet. By taking it seriously, carefully listening and making notes, and dissecting every piece of information, the amount of knowledge that can be absorbed is astounding.
The intellect that Julia puts forth was way beyond my calculations. She covers the entire spectrum and delves even deeper in relation to the fine art of photography. Completing this workshop left me feeling as if I had more to contribute, like I had entered a new chapter in my career. It gave me a new outlook on what I was capable of and that is nothing if not refreshing. Those feelings and realizations are exactly what I had hoped to receive by studying under Julia. I will forever be indebted to her, it as truly been both an honor and a transformation for myself and my profession.”
“I’m new to (en)Visionography but from the moment I encountered Julia Anna Gospodarou (through a short, online photography course) I’ve been absorbed. Partly it’s because of the exciting and energising style of her photographic work; partly it’s her ideas and vision – her Photography Drawing Technique and (en)Visionography are electrifying and innovative – they’ve opened a door for me into an stimulating and amazingly creative photographic world; but mostly it’s because of Julia herself – her energy; her infectious passion and excitement; her inspiration; her undoubted commitment to sharing and teaching; her intellectual generosity; her willingness and enthusiasm to encourage others, me amongst them.
Ten weeks after the online course I’m still bubbling with excitement and adrenaline and looking forward to the next learning-opportunity with her. Thank you Julia”

“Looking on the DxO website searching for information for improving my black and white processing, I found the photography universe of Julia Anna. It was love at first sight. It was a revelation that made me sign up very quickly for a private workshop that took place in Athens this September. Julia Anna is just as professional in her teaching as she is in creating her images. Her explanations and advice are clear and she is expressing herself just as well in English as in French, which I appreciated very much and was very useful. The workshop was completed by a 2-week online assistance followed by a live video session consisting in feedback for my workshop work.
I recommend Julia Anna’s courses to everyone wanting to discover fine art and acquire solid bases in creating fine art photography. “
“I first came across Julia’s amazing work on social media end of 2013. Signing up on her blog and following her I was completely impressed of how photography can be combined with art. I myself do not come from an artistic background but I literally fell in love with her exceptional Fine Art Architecture.
I decided to contact Julia for more information about her mentoring courses. My first impression was to speak to a highly professional, passionate but in the same time very humble person and my first impression has been confirmed throughout the whole mentoring period with her. She is an exceptional kind and easy going person, and you feel very comfortable from the very first beginning. During my mentoring course we covered so many subjects e.g. artistic approach, composition, photography drawing, developing your own vision and many others. In my personal case my main aim was to develop my own style to learn what vision means and become not only a better photographer but to understand what it means to create an image and gain more self-confidence. Julia completely excelled in all my expectations. She dedicates herself in an unbelievable selfless way to her students and is always willing to share her knowledge to make sure you gain as much as possible about BW Fine Art photography, which in my opinion is a very rare characteristic.
One of the things I appreciated most is that she guides you to develop your own vision, she pushes you to be creative in your own style, she does not leave any of your questions open. She encourages you always and never misses out to appreciate your work and progress. All this respecting your own path and learning curve during the whole teaching process. Her way of teaching combining theoretical and practical assignments makes it easy for every photographer to translate the theory into practice immediately and to retain the information.
Her teaching style is natural, kind and respectful. Meeting her personally during my practical workshop in Athens was a highlight. We had so much fun, shooting together. I learned so much about LE and Architecture photography as well as new post-processing styles. She keeps all her teaching and explanations in such a clear way, so that even not coming from an artistic background you will have no difficulties to understand. To top it all off, she has an amazing psychological ability to completely understand the needs of her students. During my mentoring period, she took me on a journey to a different dimension. Expressing my feelings about the mentoring ship with Julia in words is not doing justice at all to all the wonderful things I experienced and learned during my time with her, it has to be lived.
In my opinion, she is one of the best Fine Art Photographers to learn from under a professional and human point of view. In my personal growth as a photographer, it was the best investment I could have ever done and I would like to express heartfelt thanks for all her support and teaching experience. I am sure I will see her again in 2015 :)”
“I’m a professional fine art photographer. I show and sell my work at art shows in the Chicago area. I have been following Julia Anna’s work for quite some time. When the opportunity to work with her came, I jumped at it.
Spending three days with her was a revelation. She changed the way I see, the way I approach a subject, the way I react to light, and the way I process my images. Her teaching style is approachable and informal and she is extremely generous with her knowledge and insight. The thing I liked the most is that she never tried to impose her style on me. What she wants is for me to further develop my own vision by taking the ideas and techniques she teaches and finding a way to make them serve my own work. Her project based approach to working reinforces her insistence on individual voice and vision.
Everything she teaches revolved around my inner experience while making a photograph. Our workshop was in Chicago, where I live. We visited locations I have shot dozens of times and I came away from our time together with fresh, new photographs. She met all of my expectations and more. I can’t recommend her highly enough, even for a professional like me. If you’re thinking about taking her workshop, just do it. You’ll be glad you did.”
“As a photographer, my biggest push this year was to both strengthen compositions in my work and learn the finer details of long exposure fine art photography. I’ve learned that to become the best, you learn from the best, so I sought out Julia for some help. I zeroed in on her because of her background in architecture, classical drawing, and stunning ways of seeing the world. I’ve enjoyed our time immensely and I’m happy to say she has become more than a trusted mentor but a friend. What I think Julia offers best for others is her ability to draw on classical art and apply it to photography, as well as a great ability to tailor what each student needs in their evolution. Her attention to detail and passion for what she does should be noted for anyone wanting to really take their work to a new level. We’ve only worked together for six or so months, a short period of time to have grown so much in my own work. I can’t recommend her enough to help you grow as a photographer.”
“I have been a student at the Prague School of Photography in Austria for 2 years. I wanted to perfect my hobby, photography, so at the same time started to research this topic more and more on the Internet. By chance, I came across the e-book “From Basics to Fine Art” and for the first time discovered Julia Anna’s fascinating photographs, which are true works of art. I was hooked straight away and wanted to learn more about this technique. The e-book gave me lots of valuable new insights and I was fascinated by the philosophy and description of the Photography Drawing™ method. I was also pleasantly surprised and impressed, of course, by the openness with which Julia Anna and Joel explain this in the e-book and share their valuable knowledge. I focused increasingly on long exposure and black and white photography. I was determined to learn the technique of Photography Drawing™ myself.
So when the workshop by Julia Anna in Athens was announced, I registered immediately. On receiving the initial information about this workshop, I was already excited and convinced I had made the right choice. Never before had a teacher inspired me to examine my experiences, knowledge and understanding so intensely in advance of a workshop. This allowed Julia Anna to relate very specifically to each individual at the workshop.
My summary of the workshop: the money could not have been better spent. Julia Anna is a great photographer and artist, but also a great teacher who was very open at this workshop about showing her entire workflow from taking the shot through to processing the image using Photography Drawing™. On the second day, we were shown the individual steps of editing images in Adobe Photoshop down to the last detail. First-hand tips and tricks, and best of all, with the notes I took, I had no problem creating my own versions of images back at home. Of course, I was also inspired by Athens with its magnificent buildings and especially the magical colonnade of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion.
I can highly recommend the e-book “From Basics to Fine Art” to anyone interested in this kind of photography and processing methods, and especially recommend a workshop with Julia Anna. It is money well invested in new knowledge. Thank you Julia Anna. It was really great and I would welcome the opportunity to meet up with you and my other photography colleagues from the workshop again. Happily the internet allows us to stay in touch. This means I can follow the progress of each individual very closely and am always fascinated by what the workshop has inspired all the participants to create.”
“For the past year my passion for B&W photography has become more intense and I was searching for challenges: to develop a style and vision. It is not surprising that I love Julia Anna’s excellent and beautiful fine art masterpieces. She has a very personal and unique style of photography. These fine art images were the triggers to make B&W fine art images. Next to interesting theory from the fantastic and unique book “From Basics To Fine Art – B&W Photography – Architecture & Beyond” I wanted to have a face-to-face meeting with the artist. So I signed up for her workshop It was a fantastic experience to meet and work with Julia Anna. She is a very open person and is not just telling her story. Julia Anna is a superb listener and philosopher with outstanding, effective and efficient teaching qualities. I returned from Athens with a lot of precious knowledge and practical skills but what is more important I have come closer to my personal style and vision as well. So if you are a serious B&W photographer and want to extend your B&W photography to a fine art level you should attend the Athens Workshop and meet Julia Anna Gospodarou.”

“In 2012 I started to work as a professional photographer and I was immediately fascinated by shooting buildings and urban structures. It came naturally to me mostly because I’m a city-boy and I love the forms and shapes around me. A year later, someone suggested me to check out an artist that does the same but in very artistic way and then… it hit me!! I saw Julia`s photos and immediately fell in love with Fine Art Architecture. I found Julia on Google+ and Facebook and I learned about her Workshops.
The next year the dream came true, I finally managed to attend Julia’s workshop. I was very lucky to be part of that team, I learn a lot from Julia who teaches the essence of Black & White Fine Art Architecture Photography. What impressed me the most was that she is an architect and so she doesn`t “just” teach the way to process the image, she teaches the right way to “see” the soul of a building, to understand the shapes and forms and how the light and shadows interact with each other. I read that in her book written with Joel Tjintjelaar, “From Basics to Fine Art – B&W Photography – Architecture and Beyond” Last year I had quite a few achievements in fine art architecture, I won an Honorable Mention at Stark Awards 2014, my images were published on “Fotografos”[Gr] magazine and one of them in a special (en)Visionography issue at Camerapixo magazine. Also one of my images made the cover of Stark Magazine [issue. 32]
During all this time I considered Julia my unofficial mentor. After Athens Workshop she became officially too my Teacher and I am very happy about that. After all, she is the person who inspired me the most. The phrase “Highly Recommended” is just an understatement to describe the usefulness of Julia’s workshop to anyone wanting to learn about Fine Art Architecture. I also feel very exited about the term “ (en)Visionography “. Finally it`s as if we are gaining an identity, this term that describes exactly what we are doing, which is creating photography according to our vision.”
“I found Julia Anna’s references and her photos through the Formatt-Hitech Featured Artists while searching about LE equipment. By consulting her website, I discovered stunning pictures and a world that was matching very well with my research of photographic development. So, it didn’t take long for me to enroll in the workshop she was organizing one month later in Athens. Until then, I was working my pictures in BW but I barely knew the Topaz and Photoshop software. I was mainly enjoying photographing architecture, but without asking myself questions of vision. I was not taking enough time, before sharing, to understand what message I wanted to convey. I was mostly researching the aesthetics.
The workshop changed my way of photographing. I found a very sensitive woman, listening to everyone and an excellent teacher, who, during the two intense days we spent, gave us an awareness of the vision to get through our pictures. What touched me is the ease of Julia Anna to get the best out of her students. Her advices goes straight to the point. And you realize how highly qualified she is to guide photographer in their quest. I came back from Athens with what I was searching for and much more: a new way to see my work (my vision), a desire to share it more professionally, new tools for helping me to edit my pictures and the chance to discover a wonderful person. Julia Anna clearly gave a new direction in my artist’s life, and I can only encourage you to attend her next workshop !”
“I first came into contact with Julia Anna less than a year ago through social media after the level of her black & white art resonated with me, seeing I already had an affinity and passion for monochrome images at that point. Since then, her help has proven invaluable in prodding me to improve my vision, which she persisted and insisted on, even when I myself was on the verge of giving up on it (must be those 100% accurate selections really…). She pushed me past the faults in my post-processing, in the thought process behind an image and in the very essence of what it means to create an image and communicate through art. She is selfless and infinitely helpful, which is in stark contrast to other artists who are unwilling to divulge the secrets of their thought process or technical know-how, even not having met me in person by that point, as if threatened by upcoming artists or unwilling to share hard-earned knowledge. And all this coming from a pluri-awarded internationally renowned black & white artist, an envisionographer no less.
Her teaching style is holistic and she draws from and amalgamates her knowledge of architecture, classical art, photography and philosophy to see in a unique way and teach heartily expecting her students to excel themselves. I have had the opportunity to learn from Julia Anna and to shoot with her in person; she is (stubbornly and indefatigably!) passionate about her work, and took a keen and sincere interest in my work, driving me and pushing me respectfully but insistently to improve and aim higher. Through her mentoring, Julia Anna has been an integral part of my growth as a fine art visionary in less than a year and helped in giving me the skills to grow as a fine art artist. I am proud to say I gained much more than a mentor, but a true friend and collaborator.
I consider meeting and learning from Julia Anna as one of the lucky breaks in my career as a fine art visual artist up till now. I could never have learned so much in such a short space of time from anyone else, except from someone so intense, committed and passionate about art. Her mentoring and workshops come highly recommended and are not to be missed.”
“Los Angeles was the second workshop that I attended with Julia Anna Gospodarou. Julia has inspired me greatly, she is such a talented artist and photographer and her words of encouragement have motivated me to move forward.
I learn a lot from her classroom session where she demonstrated her post-processing workflow using one of her images. Her insights on the participants’ image critique session was invaluable. I also enjoyed the field trips and Julia was always on hand to provide guidance and advice. I have no hesitation recommending Julia to anyone interested in the fine arts of architecture photography.”

“After finding Julia Anna Gospodarou online and purchasing her e-book and on-line videos I was excited about learning more to better develop my artistic vision along with the technical skills to bring that vision to life. This led to me signing up for her workshop, The Art and Craft of Black and White Processing, Los Angeles, Creating (en)Visionography in March, 2019.
Julia Anna quickly challenged me even before the workshop to review extensive materials and to practice Long Exposure techniques and tilt-shift lens techniques to be completely prepared for the workshop. She also provided extensive information on the schedule, shooting locations and hotel information. The workshop days were filled with her passionate and skilled instruction in the classroom as well as very active photoshoots in the streets of LA.
She is at all times professional, caring, and very engaging. She can explain technical photoshop and camera techniques well while also keeping the artistic “big picture” in mind. I highly recommend her workshops to anyone that wants to expand their artistic horizons. She will provide you with a solid foundation from which to reach as high as you desire in your photographic journey!”
– Dary Shelton – Dallas, TX
“I attended Julia Anna’s London workshop to learn from an expert architectural photographer. As an experienced photographer myself I was looking for new ways of developing my skills. I was not disappointed and found her teaching to be inspirational, thought-provoking and a lot of fun.
It’s been a while since my thinking was challenged in this way and I thoroughly recommend Julia Anna’s courses.”
– Martin Smith – London, UK
“Fantastic Long exposure class in L.A. Julia was very organized and gave great presentations on techniques in Photoshop and long exposures that were new to me. Can’t wait to use more luminosity masking on many types of images and not just long exposure.
I highly recommend taking a workshop with Julia anywhere in the world.”
“Julia Anna Gospodarou’s (en)Visionography Workshop was an incredible photography journey. In three days we learned from how to best use our photography gear how to Create a Vision and Execute it.
Julia Anna has an extensive repertoire of Art and Architecture and shares all her knowledge. I left the workshop very inspired and full of ideas. I can’t wait to practice everything I learned.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed Julia’s New York workshop. She is an excellent teacher, and takes the time to work with you in the field. I look forward to attending future workshops.”
– Shelley Quarless – Philadelphia USA
“A very productive workshop.
The combination of rich theoretical material (explained in a simple way by a highly experienced professional) and the application in the field of these concepts are undoubtedly a masterful combination.
Julia Anna is a professional of enormous stature with great artistic sensitivity and pedagogical qualities a “superb combination”.
Congratulations Julia Anna!”
– Rafael Diaz – Argentina
“I came across Julia Anna Gospodarou & Joel Tjintjelaar photography in a Topaz magazine email and fell in love with their style and photography work. Since then I researched more of their work and read this beautiful book they published.
Since then I have started doing my own fine-art architecture photography work which I have loved. Since starting this style of photography I have had numerous photos of mine published in magazines, and last year won the Black and White section for the Australian Photographer of the Year competition. Prior to this, I had not received as much attention for my work; but since reading about the photography and editing skills from this book I have managed to take on a new style of photography that is absolutely beautiful and a deep passion for myself.
It is all thanks to Julia Anna Gospodarou & Joel Tjintjelaar for sharing their creativity to the world that helped inspire me and my work. Thank you!

“As a photographer I try to learn something new every day. Sometimes we need help to advance further. That was my case in black and white photography. I think I could create some good color images but failed always in black and white.
To progress in B&W photography I have had the help of Julia Anna Gospodarou during four weeks in a web-based “Introduction to B&W Fine Art Course” including 2 hours of video discussion. During that time I have progressed much more than in one year. I have had 4 assignments and in each one I had the feedback from Julia that I used in the following one.
She provides all the relevant material to study, gives you practical assignments, explains very clearly what you can do to improve your image, describes how to initiate a creative process and to find a unique style. The final images were much better than the first one and I know how to continue my path. Therefore, I recommend Julia’s workshops!”
– Jose Paulo Andrade – Porto, Portugal
“Photography is my hobby for several years. For a while, I was looking for new inspiration because I had the feeling that there was no progress and development in my work. On the internet, I stopped on Julia`s website and was immediately fascinated by her work and interpretation of light and shadow. Around Christmas I purchased her and Joel´s ebook “From Basics to Fine Art” which gave me a real inspiration to go forward with my work.
Especially the chapters about creating your own vision and Photography Drawing gives me the motivation to create something beyond documentation in my photos. When the workshop was announced I registered immediately even I thought it was a bit strange to fly only for two days to Athens. But I regret nothing, it was a very inspiring weekend, rather it was the starting point for me to go a step further with my work. It was a good balance between theory and practical work.
Julia is a great photographer, artist and teacher. I learned a lot about post-processing which wasn’t so far the focus of my work, but I learned that it is essential for creating one’s personal style. Also, the post-workshop assistance was very helpful for me, a great tool to go more precisely to the needs of every student.
It was a fantastic experience and I enjoyed to work with other photographers from all over the world. I can highly recommend this workshop to everyone who wants to learn more about Fine Art Architecture.”
“In a pre-workshop questionnaire, Julia Anna asked which photographer inspires me. My response was that she and Joel Tjintjelaar had done so with their excellent book, “From Basics To Fine Art – Black and White Photography”. The same still holds true after having attended her workshop and I speak as a teacher and therapist of 30 plus years when I say that I found Julia Anna warm, professional, generous, inspiring and wise beyond her years. Artistically I found the workshop and her encouragement liberating.
I highly recommend her courses and they are also an exceptional value.
Again thanks for everything Julia Anna.
Kind regards, John.”
– John Glavey – Ireland
“I’m a photographer for the last 3 years. My level of photography is Enthusiast but with a view of being a professional fine art photographer. I took Julia’s workshop because I admire her work and because she is one of the people that make me believe in my work and vision with passion. From the beginning, I always wanted to shoot the architectural and landscape of the city I live in black and white.
I met Julia and her amazing work through the social networks. In addition to the very important things that I learned at the seminar, I have to say that Julia inspires you to do your own original work and find your identity as a photographer and artist. I’m sending her a big “thank you” for believing in me, which made me decide to join the (en)Visionography Contest where I won the publication of one of my photos in a special issue of “Camerapixo”, a great photography magazine.
Julia, thank you for everything and keep up your great job as an educator and artist.”
“Julia came to my attention when I saw her ‘Waves in the sky’ image.
I tried to figure out how she did this, this was so beautiful… Then came her version of the Calatrava bridge in Athens… again a masterpiece… I was sold, I fell in love… Julia has an unique way of looking… Since those masterpieces I started to look up, tried to see her way… no luck, big frustrations… Our holidays were planned in Greece so I contacted her and ask for a workshop… I wanted to learn from a ‘master’. Luckily, she could fit me in after her Chicago-workshop… I was over the moon, so excited, scared… could I really learn this? Our contacts (mail) were very easygoing, It felt like I knew her for a while, Julia is very accessible. She had a bunch of questions so she could really personalize the workshop. The 2 days in Athens were intense, got a lot of information, learned to see ‘the negative space’, saw beautiful architecture… The workshop fitted like a glove…
Julia is an ideal guide, a great teacher, has a special vision… I found it a privilege to be in her companion. Efcharisto poly, miss JAG!”
– Dina Van Damme, Belgium
“Julia is the kind of person that is in love with her work. She is organized and passioned. Noone from the students left with questions, but she taught us how to question ourselves and search inside us in our artistic quests.
She allowed and guided us on how to acquire a personal inner will for learning, how to be creative and have an alternative mindset. This is the way she did, does and will do with all her students in order to help them evolve. It’s not at all difficult to write about the work Julia did with us.
She did her work with purpose and zest and the result was a beautiful experience that still continues and that was a big artistic satisfaction for me. Thank you for the beautiful journey!.”
– Theocharis Karamanis – Athens, Greece
“I attended Julia’s fine art architectural photography workshop in November. The workshop gave me valuable insight into what goes into producing some of the award-winning photographs I admire.
It left me with an expanded range of artistic tools to use in my own photography, and with new ways to think about my subjects and turn them from simple captured images into expressions of an artistic idea.
If you wish you could produce some of the beautiful long-exposure images you see in galleries and on the web, one of Julia’s workshops will give you a solid start down that road, and you’ll have fun along the way!”
– Steven Grimm – Sunnyvale, CA, USA
“It was a pleasure meeting you at the Chicago architecture workshop. I found your presentations to be quite thought-provoking. You raised two important questions about vision that really struck me: · How do I feel about what I see? · How do I communicate that feeling?
You not only helped me answer these questions, you encouraged me to create the world I want to see. I find that to be a freeing idea and I’m going to explore what this means for me personally as I photograph my own city.
Thank you for sharing your personal vision and experience with me. I look forward to seeing you again in a future workshop.”
– Bob Beaverson – Madison, WI – USA
“I recently attended the Vision Explorers’ Chicago Long Exposure Architectural workshop and Julia was one of the instructors. I was well aware of her work and it was great to meet the person behind some absolutely stunning imagery.
Although I have dabbled in some architectural long exposure work previously, I felt I was still a bit weak in my approach toward it and Julia was always at hand to help, be it compositional or theoretical.
She has a great eye to identify what would work in a photograph and is not afraid to abstract if necessary. Julia definitely seems to be someone with both the passion to create as well as to teach and I highly recommend her architectural photography workshops.”
“I recently attended the Chicago workshop and it was a great learning experience. I’ve never attempted long exposure photography, other than night shots, which is entirely different.
Julia was very patient with me, helping me to understand how to set up a shot and walking me through the process. She was also very helpful on the post processing suggestions and critiques, giving me suggestions I fully intend to incorporate within my workflow.
Not only is her work a testimony to her artistic brilliance she is a very kind and thoughtful person willing to share her expertise and help you grow within your own personal vision.”
“I met Julia for the first time in Chicago. I already knew some work from her before meeting her in Chicago and she was a great inspiration to me. Julia does wonderful things … Her strength is her “eye” and her vision in how to create art … I was very pleased to be able to follow a workshop with her and the rest of the Vision Explorers team. It was a great experience and it really gave me a new “vision” also ! I would recommend everybody who has a passion for art and photography to follow a workshop with Julia ! “
– Thierry Vanhuysse (Art-Unique) – Belgium
“When I first saw the stunning long exposures images created by Julia Anna Gospodarou, I was filled with envy that someone could produce such artistry with a camera. When I learned that she would be teaching at a Chicago workshop, I quickly signed up and I was not disappointed. I was struck by the compositions she found and the subtlety of the transitions in tone that she rendered. Julia was most helpful in recommending compositions and generous in explaining techniques. I have not photographed architecture before, but my experience with Julia has opened new possibilities for creating art.”
– Stephen Rostler, Massachusetts – USA
“It was an amazing experience being in Chicago surrounded by so many talented people. The instructors were great and they really know how to express their ideas. Julia’s insights about composition were very objective. It definitely expanded my horizon, for it gave me new tools for experimentation with my photographs.”
“I had the pleasure of taking a long exposure architecture photography class taught by world renowned experts, including Julia. I came away with a new appreciation for this art, a deeper understanding of the craft, and a new found enthusiasm. Julia was patient, talented, and a great communicator. Without being the least bit condescending, she was able to help turn my camera a few degrees to the left, and help me frame a better composition. She has a deep understanding of what makes a good image, and is able to impart this effectively to her student. And she does this with a smile! Her talk on composition was comprehensive and insightful, drawing from her deep understanding of architecture and art. It was a pleasure and honor to get to know her. I wish her continued success in her brilliant career.”

“My architecture photography workshop in Athens with Julia Anna Gospodarou was a wonderful experience for me. I subscribed to this workshop willing to learn more about this type of photography, keen to enrich my post-processing skills with new techniques and to have fun shooting Athens modern architecture. All of this have been achieved: Julia prepared a large material, covering all that can be talked about architecture photography from regular images to fine art, presented us her complete post-processing workflow and chose some really beautiful architectural sighseeings of Athens.
I spent excellent time doing both long-exposure and normal photography, having various one-to-one discussions with Julia and understanding her passion and vision. I definitely recommend this workshop for both people willing to dive into architecture photography but also for more advanced photographers interested to advance to a new level and experience new techniques.”
“The workshop was very well organized and the locations carefully selected. Julia Anna was very friendly and always open to discuss any subject.
From deciding what to shoot to processing the final image she was very generous in sharing her vision and her way of doing things. After the workshop her feedback and suggestions helped me to improve my images and take them to the next level.
I would recommend it to anyone interested in architecture and photography. It is an opportunity to shoot some of the best modern architecture and broaden your approach to photography.”
– Petros Christidis – Athens, Greece
“The workshop led by Julia Anna Gospodarou was a busy and inspiring experience. First thing in the morning was a theoretical presentation. On day one we were welcomed in a nice location where we got an impressive presentation on architectural photography and in particular long-time exposure (LE) applied especially architecture, how to look at it and how to experience it and of course about the technical equipment and technical side of the architecture / LE photography. After all these we shoot at nice and impressive locations in and around. On day two we were introduced to the expertise of a great artist and became a glimpse of her secrets revealed as for the creation of a work of art, after which we went shooting around the Olympic Complex.
This workshop was certainly a wonderful experience and I found a lot of inspiration acquired to handle in my style of photography.”
