In fine art photography, just like in art, we strive to surprise the viewer and inspire them to think differently. We aim to challenge their beliefs, and not only provide a beautiful photograph to enjoy. Art is more than beauty. Art means questioning yourself, discovering new things, finding a new way of seeing the world that will bring the viewer into a state of awe. This is what (en)Visionography, as a profoundly personal and authentic way to create fine art photography, can offer – a new way of seeing and experiencing the world, both for the photographer and for the viewer. In this workshop, we will explore the process of creating (en)Visionography in two distinctive ways: in black and white and in color.
The workshop will be structured into two parts: one online group session, for the Basic & Full workshop levels, and an additional one-on-one session for the Full workshop level.
The first part, the online group session, will be presented by Julia Anna Gospodarou on Sunday, December 7, and the second part, the one-on-one session, will be scheduled with each student for a date and time soon after the group session. The session will be live, so please schedule time for it in your program and make sure you can attend.
For the group session, you will join Julia on Zoom for around 3.5 hours (or a bit longer) from the comfort of your home and learn how to create (en)Visionography on your black and white and color fine art images.
For the additional one-on-one session, you will meet with Julia in a private online 1.5-hour session, where you will discuss your images extensively, from all points of view: vision, composition, post-processing etc. In this session, you can ask questions and get specific answers applied 100% to your own images, and not only concerning general principles. This is the fastest and most reliable way of learning when it comes to fine art photography, which is based on the individuality of the artist. This is why Julia places such a strong emphasis on individual mentoring, and why her students over the past more than 15 years of doing mentoring and workshops have consistently achieved outstanding results in their photography. This additional session is recommended if you are still evolving and need more help with your work, or if you are an advanced photographer who needs specific advanced solutions for your fine art photography.
An important note: Specifically for this workshop, the additional one-on-one session is offered at a 45% discount compared to the regular fee for this type of session with Julia. This discount is not available outside this workshop. Also, due to Julia’s very busy program, the spots for these sessions will be limited, meaning the sooner you sign up, the surer you are that you can secure a spot.
Examples of (en)Visionography in Julia Anna Gospodarou’s Work
Theory: Principles of (en)Visionography + Practice: Post-processing (en)Visionography
Workshop Content
The sessions will be a combination of theory and practice.
Julia will share with the students both the theoretical and technical knowledge needed so the students can start creating a personal style in fine art photography, black and white, and color, as well as the practical tools necessary to take the photograph from the stage of capture to the final image through post-processing.
After a short theoretical presentation of the principles of (en)Visionography post-processing, Julia will work directly on your images, showing you how to make the best of them, regardless of the genre you work with: architecture, urban, landscape, and beyond. We will analyze how to create both fine art black and white photography, as well as color fine art photography.
By working live on processing fine art photographs submitted by the students, Julia will make this session truly about your work and about demonstrating how to think and execute when working on any style and having any approach to fine art photography that a photographer can have.
The students will submit fine art photographs of their choice, and Julia will work on as many as the group session can fit. Obviously, not all images will fit into the length of the session, but Julia will select images that are representative of different approaches and genres, allowing you to learn as much as possible. In the additional one-on-one session, we can continue analyzing your images, if you didn’t have an image analyzed in the group session, and further images if you already had an image in the group session. Additionally, we can discuss further images.
So, the group session will be focused on revealing the most important aspects of creating (en)Visionography covering a wider range of approaches, while the one-on-one session will be highly flexible and fully tailored to each student and their style, skills, and approach.
Submitting an image is not compulsory to participate in the workshop. Also, you can submit an image only for the one-on-one session if you find it more comfortable. I know not everyone wants their work analyzed publicly, and I am committed to respecting this, which is one of the reasons I’m offering the additional one-on-one session.
After signing up, you will receive the details on how to submit images for the workshop.
This black and white and color fine art photography workshop will be useful for anyone working with fine art photography and seeking to bring something new to their work, as well as those who haven’t worked with fine art photography before but want to incorporate this subject into their work. If you work predominantly in black and white or color, this is an opportunity to gain insight into a different way of approaching your work, introducing, by case, a black and white approach to your work, if you mainly work in color, and vice versa. The aim is to offer everyone a guideline that will help them start working with photography in an artistic way. It will be accessible to any photographer, professional or hobbyist, who wants to learn something new and take their photography to the next level.
We will discuss technical and artistic considerations, aesthetic and practical principles, we will analyze the best ways to work with light and the best post-processing techniques for working in black and white or color, as well as many other things that can give information and inspiration to anyone wanting to create (en)Visionography.

A quick look at Julia's website tells you all you need to know about her expertise in composition and processing. But she's also a very good teacher, fully dedicated to improving the work of her students. I've participated in three on-location workshops, where I not only learned a lot, but I came away with some great photos of places I never would have even found without her advanced work. I've also done a lot of 1:1 lessons, which have taken my skills to a whole new level. If you want to master monochrome photography and/or architecture photography, I recommend Julia without reservation.

I’ve had the privilege of participating in three destination (en)Visionography workshops and one online workshop with Julia. And, each one has been an incredible and unique learning experience.
From the very... read more beginning, Julia’s preparation sets her workshops apart. Before each session, she shares an amazing amount of material tailored to the workshop. I admit, during my first workshop, I didn’t fully realize just how valuable that pre-workshop material was but didn’t make the same mistake in the second one, Investing the time to absorb her guidance beforehand made the following workshop experiences even more fulfilling.
Julia also brings an incredible depth of knowledge about each location we visit. She’s studied the light, scouted compositions, and thought through the smallest details, giving her students a strong foundation to start. But instead of simply telling us where to stand and what to shoot, Julia teaches us how to truly see … how to connect with the spirit of a architecture and interpret it through our own vision. Her approach is deeply personal and inspiring, encouraging you to reach deep within yourself and express your own unique vision.
One more thing that really stands out is how Julia supports every student, no matter their experience level. She starts by making sure everyone is comfortable with the basics, and then as the workshop progresses, finds 1:1 time with each person to focus on their individual challenges. Although you’re part of a group, it often feels like you’re getting a private mentorship and this individual attention is priceless.
When we move from photographing in the field to processing, Julia once again surprises! Her expertise in processing eclipses her in-field knowledge ... and that’s saying something! Rather than following trends or creating “Instagram-friendly” shots, Julia’s focus is on creating personal works of art that you’d be proud to hang on your wall ... or even exhibit if you dare!
This holistic journey equips you everything you need turn your vision into something very personal … from the moment you frame your photograph in the field to the final strokes in your processing!
Beyond all of this, what makes Julia’s workshops even more special is her personality and the wonderful people she attracts. She brings a sense of calm, light-heartedness, and joy to everything she does, creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and supported. Every workshop I’ve attended has been filled with people who are eager to learn, share and support each other and that’s truly a reflection of Julia’s spirit.
In summary, participating in Julia’s workshops has been one of the best investments I’ve made ... not just in my photography, but in myself. The experiences and lessons I’ve gained will stay with me wherever my photography journey takes me.
Thank you, Julia!

Julia Anna's photographic art resonated with me the moment I first laid eyes on it -- it stirred in me an strong emotional response to events in my own life.... read more And since that moment, I have been working on creating my own body of work to capture those emotions in my art.
I started my journey with the ebook she co-wrote with Joel Tjintjelaar -- From Basics to Fine Art -- to set the stage for my efforts. The ebook provided a solid starting point and captured my random thoughts on fine art photography.
I then added her two courses -- Creating (en)Visionography and Mastering B&W Photo Processing -- to learn and understand the processes she uses for turning a vision into a final print. Not so I can copy them exactly, but so I can take those parts of her processes that make sense to combine with other processes and methods to help me achieve my goals.
I refer back to these resources often to help guide my efforts, and ensure I am doing my absolute best to express myself in my final prints.
Thank you for your help Julia Anna.

Julia's new video tutorial "Understanding Fine Art Architectural Photography" is outstanding just as I've come to expect from her instruction, whether in the form of a video, book, article or... read more workshop. The first half of the video course is theory and the 2nd half is a presentation of her techniques used to accomplish the wonderful black and white images she routinely produces. Julia is open with sharing those techniques, which is valuable to me. The techniques she shares are not the typical Photoshop/Lightroom techniques that you may see from other instructors. The techniques are tailored for b&w work of the type that Julia produces, and which I try to emulate, or at least use as a starting point, in my own work.
A word of warning though - in the theoretical portion there are many interesting ideas presented, each of which can lead down multiple pleasant rabbit trails. Luckily for me, it's more about the journey than the product anyway. One of those ideas was seeking out a architecture course. My search for an online course lead me to Harvard University's course "The Architectural Imagination". The course is free, but the free version has a limited time for completion. I ultimately opted for the paid version after a discount was offered. The course begins with a study of Immanuel Kant's "Aesthetics" and the history of perspective. The course is so interesting it has also lead me down many more pleasant side diversions, so I haven't made it too far into the course yet.
With respect to the practical 2nd half of Julia's tutorial I found new useful techniques there even though I have already read her books and articles and attended several of her workshops. The new technique that stands out for me is the use of multiple b&w conversions blended with masks. I've found that to be useful in achieving the final image I want, as well as saving time.
So, I highly recommend "Understanding Fine Art Architectural Photography" and Julia's other books, articles and workshops.
